Alau Dam: Agency to release excess water from dam, warns Maiduguri residents

The Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) on Tuesday alerted residents of Maiduguri metropolis and environs on the release of excess water from Alau Dam.
“The CBDA wishes to inform the general public that the gates of Alau Dam are going to be opened to release water downstream of River Ngadda.
“The authority also wishes to advise those living on the shores of River Ngadda to take precautionary measures to avert any damage to lives and property.
“The authority also wishes to solicit for the cooperation of all and sundry in that regard, please,” the managing director Of CBDA, Abba Garba, said.
River Ngadda passes through populated areas of Maiduguri Metropolitan and Jere Local Government Areas.
In 1994, several wards in Maiduguri were flooded when part of the dam collapsed due to excess water leading to the destruction of many properties.
