Alcaraz retains Wimbledon crown, dominates Djokovic in final

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz produced a dominant display to crush Novak Djokovic of Serbia 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 in the Wimbledon final. This victory secures his second consecutive Wimbledon title and extends his perfect record in Grand Slam finals to four.
Alcaraz’s triumph adds to his growing collection of major trophies, including his 2022 US Open title and his French Open win last month.
For Djokovic, the defeat meant missing out on history. A win would have given him his 25th Grand Slam title, surpassing Margaret Court’s record. It also dashed his hopes of equaling Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon titles.
The match started with a marathon first game, lasting 14 minutes. Alcaraz eventually capitalised on his fifth break point, setting the tone for a one-sided opening set. Strong serving propelled the Spaniard to a commanding lead.
Djokovic faced relentless pressure in the second set. Alcaraz’s aggressive play forced the Serb into service errors, allowing the Spaniard to break serve and establish a seemingly insurmountable two-set advantage.
The third set offered a glimmer of hope for Djokovic as he battled back from 4-4 to break serve himself. However, Alcaraz displayed nerves of steel, saving three match points before securing victory in the tiebreak when Djokovic’s return sailed into the net.
This win marks a significant moment for Alcaraz, solidifying his position as a dominant force in men’s tennis. On the other hand, Djokovic will have to wait for another shot at Grand Slam glory.
