ALGON distributes operational vehicles to security agencies in Osun

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun on Saturday distributed operational vehicles to security agencies to strengthen security across the state.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony at the State Police Command in Osogbo, the ALGON Chairman, Idowu Abiodun, said the vehicles were part of the completion of an earlier distribution carried out two weeks ago.
“I stand before you today at this important occasion marking the distribution of the remaining security patrol vehicles to our esteemed security agencies across the state.
“Just a few weeks ago, we unveiled the first batch of patrol vehicles.
“I am pleased to inform this gathering that the remaining vehicles are now ready for distribution to further strengthen security and the maintenance of law and order in the state,” he said.
Mr Abiodun described security as the bedrock of meaningful development, noting that no society can thrive or achieve its developmental goals without peace and stability.
He said the initiative underscored ALGON’s commitment to supporting security agencies, adding that local governments, as the closest tier of government to the people, understood the unique security challenges within their communities.
“We are determined to support all necessary efforts to address these challenges effectively,” he said.
The ALGON chairman added that the provision of the vehicles was not only a security intervention but also a practical demonstration of the effectiveness of local government autonomy in the country.
He expressed confidence that the vehicles would enhance mobility, improve response times, and enable security agencies to be more proactive.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Gotan, commended ALGON for what he described as a thoughtful and strategic intervention.
Mr Gotan, who spoke on behalf of the other security agencies, stressed that security remained a shared responsibility, noting that the gesture reflected confidence in the capacity of security agencies to deliver effective service.
“Today’s event represents more than the commissioning of vehicles; it reflects a collective commitment to strengthening security architecture, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing public safety,” he said.
He added that the vehicles would significantly improve mobility, response time, patrol coverage, intelligence-led operations, and inter-agency collaboration.
The police commissioner assured residents that the vehicles would be deployed judiciously, properly maintained, and used strictly for security purposes.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring a secure environment where businesses can thrive and citizens can go about their lawful activities without fear.
