Former United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has hailed the decision by President Donald Trump to redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern.

Mr Pompeo, who announced Nigeria’s designation as a country of religious concerns during Mr Trump’s first tenure in 2020, stated this in a X post on Tuesday.

“President Trump is absolutely right to re-designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over the ongoing systematic violence and persecution against Christians,” the former lawmaker said.

He noted, “America must always stand up for religious liberty, both at home and around the world.”

Mr Pompeo joined growing list of notable American politicians, including current Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Senator Ted Cruz, and Congressman Riley Moore, who praised Mr Trump’s decision to protect Christians in Nigeria over their alleged target by bandits.
