Alleged killer of Afrigo Band musician Matovu Moses arrested
The police in Uganda have arrested Nsamba Vincent, the prime suspect wanted in connection with the murder of veteran Ugandan musician Matovu Moses.
Mr Vincent had been under the radar of law enforcement since the early hours of Thursday after he was identified as Mr Moses’ assailant while leaving an apartment in Kampala District with his alleged girlfriend Rose Tumusiime.
The 41-year-old man, who is reportedly Ms Tumusiime’s ex-lover, allegedly approached Mr Moses and punched him, causing the 77-year-old singer to fall and hit his head on the ground.
He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital on a motorcycle but succumbed to his injuries, which authorities said were “serious”.
In an update posted on its official Instagram account on Thursday evening, police confirmed they had arrested Mr Vincent, who had been on the run since the incident.
The police said they arrested him in Wakiso District, noting that the investigation was still underway to establish the details of the case.
“The prime suspect in connection with the murder of Afrigo Band musician Matovu Moses has been arrested. The suspect has been identified as Nsamba Vincent, 41, who was apprehended following investigations into the circumstances surrounding the musician’s death.
“Nsamba was arrested in Ochange Ward, Yesu Amala, Nansana Division, Wakiso District. Investigations into the murder are ongoing, with police working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring all those responsible to justice,” the police said.
Ms Tumusiime was immediately arrested following the death and remained in custody as of Thursday afternoon, helping authorities with their investigation.
Mr Moses’ final rites and burial are scheduled for Friday in Kyanja.
