Alleged Rape: 38-year-old man remanded pending DPP advice

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a 38-year-old man, Ayodele Babatola, at the Correctional Centre, for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman.
The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered that case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
Mr Adeosun adjourned the case until June 26, for mention.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is charged on one-count of rape.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 24, in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant invited the woman to a hotel and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
He alleged that the defendant eventually left the woman stranded in the hotel.
The prosecutor alleged that the woman reported the case to the police and the defendant was arrested.
The offence contravenes the provisions of section 265(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
