In a rare occurrence that experts describe as an amazing birthing feat, a Malian woman, Halima Cisse, aged twenty-five, has given birth to nonuplets in a Moroccan hospital on Tuesday, Yahoo news reports.

The mother and the nine babies are in stable condition.

Although spokesman of the Moroccan health ministry, Rachid Koudhari, denied knowledge of such a development in any of the country’s medical facilities, the Malian health ministry disclosed in a statement that Ms Cisse gave birth to four boys and five girls by Caesarean section.

Ms Cisse was flown to Morocco by the Malian government on March 30 to enable her receive quality medical attention in the northern African country.

According to her country’s health ministry in a statement, their decision to take her to Morocco became imperative as they had found out that examinations of the ultrasound done in both countries suggested that she had seven babies in her womb.

Speaking with AFP, Malian health minister, Fanta Siby revealed that she has been kept appraised by the Malian doctor who followed Ms Cisse to Morocco.

Ms Siby further stated that “the mother and babies are doing well so far,” adding that “they are due to return home in several weeks time.”

The local media had reported that doctors expressed worry and uncertainty about her condition while hoping for the survival of the nine children as the successful carrying and delivery of septuplets is rare, let alone nanoplets.

However, after the safe delivery of the babies, minister Siby gave kudos “to the medical team of Mali and Morocco, whose professionalism is at the origin of the happy outcome of this pregnancy.”
