Robin Morgan, a seasoned writer, editor and feminist who amplified women’s struggles and protested the gender’s second-class treatment, has died at the age of 85 in Manhattan, New York.

Ms Morgan’s musician son, Blake Morgan, announced her demise on Saturday. He is her only child and sole survivor.

Credited with coining the term “herstory” (history from a woman’s perspective), Ms Morgan was a poet who wrote the popular Sisterhood anthology series and authored over 20 books during her lifetime.

She had previously worked as an editor at Ms Magazine, a newspaper co-founded by fellow feminist Gloria Steinem, who herself died on Wednesday. She also co-founded Women’s Media Centre alongside Ms Steinem and Jane Fonda.

Ms Morgan, a child star in the mid-aughts, gained prominence in the 1940s and, when she grew older, used her fame to lend voice to women’s issues.

In 1970, she edited the anthology “Sisterhood is Powerful” and “Goodbye to All That,” an article naming several men as sexists. She was also among the organisers of the protests against the Miss America pageant in 1968, where she advocated against the objectification of the female participants.
