The Osun Security Network, also known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested a suspected armed robber in Ororuwo Community, Boripe Local Government Area of the state.

This is contained in a statement by the corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Abass, on Wednesday in Osogbo.

Abass said the 25-year-old suspect was arrested on Sunday in connection with an alleged armed robbery in the community.

He explained that the suspect, an indigene of Osogbo who resides in Lagos, was apprehended when operatives of Amotekun attached to the Boripe Command responded to a distress call from residents.

“Residents alerted security authorities to the activities of suspected armed robbers in the area.

“Responding to the call, our personnel mobilised to the scene and were able to apprehend the suspect,” he said.

Mr Abass said other members of the robbery gang managed to escape, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest them.

He said the suspect, during interrogation, confessed to participating in the crime, claiming it was his first involvement in armed robbery.

According to him, the suspect stated that one of his associates, identified as “small,” who is currently at large, persuaded him to engage in the criminal act and facilitated his movement from Lagos to Ororuwo for the operation.

Mr Abass said exhibits recovered from the suspect included a dane gun, a stick and a mask.

The Amotekun Corps Commander, Adekunle Omoyele, commended residents of Ororuwo for their timely and proactive communication, which significantly aided the arrest.

Mr Omoyele emphasised that community cooperation remains vital in combating crime and ensuring public safety.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to help prevent crime.
