The Ondo State Security Network, otherwise known as the Amotekun Corps, has apprehended a suspect, Adebayo Ogunbemi Adebayo, for allegedly supplying information to bandits terrorising the Ago Dada camp in the Akure North Local Government Area.

The commander of the corps, Adetunji Adeleye, said on Monday at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure that Mr Ogungbemi, 29, allegedly confessed to volunteering as an informant.

According to Mr Adeleye, the suspect underwent training on the use of firearms, including AK-47 rifles, by bandits at the Ademekun farmland near Ago Dada before he was eventually apprehended.

“He said he was recruited a couple of months ago and initially thought they only wanted him to assist locally. However, he was later taken to Ademekun farmland, where he was trained by Fulani men on the use of AK-47 rifles.

“He had been working with the bandits until a joint patrol team of the civil defence corps and Amotekun, with assistance from the regent and residents of Ademekun village, arrested him,” Mr Adeleye said.

The Amotekun boss also disclosed that the corps arrested Nasiru Suleiman, who had been dismantling government-owned heavy equipment parked in a yard along the Akure-Ondo road.

Mr Adeleye explained that Mr Suleiman and his fleeing accomplices had already stripped several caterpillars of their engines and other parts before being caught.

“They had completely vandalised a number of caterpillars, reducing them to carcasses, and were on the third one when our operatives arrested them,” he said.

In a related development, the corps also arrested two other suspects, Saliu Nureni and Ahmed Oladimeji, for robbery at the NEPA market in Akure.

The duo was accused of setting ablaze a victim’s property and stealing a power generator around the Igoba area of the city.

Meanwhile, Mr Adeleye revealed that three Amotekun personnel had been suspended for alleged gross misconduct and violation of the corps’ operational code of conduct.

He listed those suspended as Abu Taiwo, Akinsipe Victor, and Julius Akinjumi.
