Anambra: Police reaffirm commitment to religious, traditional institutions

The police command in Anambra has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained engagement with religious leaders, traditional institutions, community leaders and other critical partners.
The police commissioner, Nnanna Ama, stated this on Wednesday when Chukwuemeka Ohanamere, spiritual director of Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, visited him in Awka, Anambra.
Mr Ama said this measure was part of efforts to strengthen public trust, enhance community relations and promote a safer environment across the state.
“Effective policing depends on public cooperation, mutual trust and strong partnerships between the police and the communities they serve,” he said.
He noted that religious leaders hold influential positions in society and could contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding, conflict resolution, responsible conduct, and the promotion of public safety.
Mr Ama said the command remained open to further constructive engagements with religious organisations and other community-based institutions. According to him, such partnerships are essential for encouraging credible intelligence sharing, peaceful coexistence and respect for the rule of law.
He assured the clergy that the command would continue to uphold professionalism, accountability and people-oriented policing.
Mr Ama also encouraged members of the public to provide timely, credible information to help the police prevent crime, identify security threats, and respond effectively to emerging challenges. He explained that the command’s approach to security extended beyond law enforcement to include dialogue, stakeholder collaboration and proactive engagement with the public.
According to Mr Ama, these measures are vital to addressing community concerns, strengthening public confidence and building a sustainable foundation for effective policing.
