The Truth, Justice and Peace Commission, investigating the crisis of insecurity in the South-East, will on March 6 submit the report of its findings to Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra.

Chidi Odinkalu, chairman of the commission, who said this in Awka on Monday, expressed the hope that the report would mark a watershed in the quest for peace, reconciliation and stability across the South-East.

Mr Soludo, after spending just three months in office as governor of Anambra, set up the Commission in June 2022 in a move that signalled his earnest and genuine quest for peace in Anambra.

The commission, which has Bianca Ojukwu as secretary, was mandated to inquire into causes and impacts and make recommendations for possible solutions to insecurity in Anambra.

Speaking on the commission’s work, Odinkalu, a former Nigerian Human Rights Commission chairman, said the job was tasking but a great privilege.

He said the commission has enjoyed the support of the government and communities around Southeast Nigeria, which shows that people in the region wanted an end to insecurity.

Mr Odinkalu said he hoped that the report would also serve as a reference point for other states that may want to address the security situations in their domains with sincerity and commitment, as well as for the federal government.

“We also want to thank the good people of Anambra, traditional rulers, town union leaderships, security agencies, and the media for their invaluable cooperation and support,” he said.
