The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) on Tuesday presented certificates of return to the 21 local government chairmen-elect.

All the chairmen-elect emerged on the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) platform.

The certificates were presented at the commission’s secretariat in Awka.

The commission also presented certificates of return to the deputy chairmen-elect and councillors-elect.

The certificates were issued following last Saturday’s local government elections in the state.

In a speech at the event, ANSIEC chairman Genevieve Osakwe said APGA won the chairmanship elections in all 21 LGAs.

Ms Osakwe, however, said the Young Progressives Party (YPP) won two of the 326 councillorship seats in Ajali and Ndikelionwu Wards in Orumba North LGA.

She said APGA won the remaining councillorship seats across the state.

“The election was free, fair and credible. I commend the electorate for turning out to exercise their franchise.

“We appreciate the security agencies for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere during the exercise,” Ms Osakwe said.

Speaking after receiving his certificate of return, the chairman-elect for Njikoka LGA, Ikechukwu Okeakpu, thanked the people of the area for entrusting him with the mandate to serve them.

Mr Okeakpu pledged to work in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision for the development of Anambra State.

He also assured the people of Njikoka of inclusive and purposeful leadership.
