Anthony Joshua knocked out by Daniel Dubois in crushing defeat

In a much-anticipated bout that had 96,000 people cheering in the stands, Daniel Dubois emphatically defeated Anthony Joshua in a fifth-round knockout at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night.
The 27-year-old Dubois, who retained his IBF heavyweight title, dominated the fight from the outset, dropping Joshua multiple times with powerful punches. The decisive blow came in the fifth round when Dubois landed a devastating counter right hook that sent Joshua crashing to the canvas.
The victory, Dubois’ most significant to date, catapulted him into the upper echelon of heavyweight boxing.
“Are you not entertained?” he asked the roaring crowd post-fight. “I’m a gladiator. I want to get to the top level of this sport and reach my potential.”
Joshua, a former two-time heavyweight champion, suffered a crushing defeat that left his future in the sport uncertain. The 34-year-old’s fourth loss in 32 fights is a major upset, particularly given his recent resurgence in the division.
The dominant nature of Dubois’ win raises questions about Joshua’s ability to recover and compete at the highest level. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist will now have to carefully consider his next move as he attempts to salvage his career.
