APC chieftain seeks zoning of party’s chairmanship position to Delta North

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta, Emmanuel Eboh, has called for the zoning of the party’s chairmanship position in the state to Delta North Senatorial District.
Mr Eboh, a Special Adviser on Politics to Senator Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta), made the call in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.
He stated that the call became imperative particularly as the current chairman of the party in the state who is the governor hails from the Delta Central Senatorial District.
He added that zoning the party’s chairmanship position to Delta North Senatorial District would ensure equity.
He stated that sustaining harmony within the party required adherence to equitable power distribution among the three senatorial districts.
Mr Eboh also noted that Delta North was justifiably positioned to produce the next state chairman of the party, in view of Delta South having previously occupied the chairmanship seat for eight years and six months in the multi-ethnic state.
“There are indications that the state party chairman will again emerge from Delta South, instead of Delta North. This is not good for a multi-ethnic state like Delta. Rotational leadership will help to foster unity and strengthen internal democracy,” Mr Eboh added.
He, therefore, called on key stakeholders to uphold what he described
as “appropriate power rotation of party leadership” to ensure cohesion and stability within the party.
“I appeal to well-meaning leaders of our great party, especially the founding members in the state as well as the national leadership of the APC to intervene and ensure that the proper thing is done.
“A just resolution will not only guarantee balance in the party’s leadership structure in Delta State but also consolidate the party’s strength for the benefit of all members,” he stated.
Mr Eboh further emphasised that an inclusive party structure based on rotation would position the party for electoral success at both the state and national levels in the forthcoming general elections.
He expressed confidence in the capacity of Delta North to provide competent leadership.
“The district has credible and experienced hands capable of steering the party effectively through the 2027 polls,” the APC chief added.
The party’s congress to elect its state chairman is scheduled for Tuesday.
