APC slams INEC for recognising shady ADC as political party

The All Progressives Congress in Lagos described the recognition of the African Democratic Congress by the Independent National Electoral Commission as a hollow victory.
The ruling party, in a statement by its Lagos chapter’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, however, welcomed the recognition ahead of the 2027 general elections, asserting that the legitimacy would allow the coalition to build structures anchored on transparency and principles, rather than manipulation, propaganda, and excuses.
“The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress congratulates the newly recognised leadership of the African Democratic Congress following the pronouncement by the Independent National Electoral Commission,” the statement said.
It added, “While we acknowledge this formal recognition, we cannot overlook the many pitfalls, questionable processes, and undeniable undemocratic, underhanded tactics that trailed its emergence. In truth, what INEC has done is to place a legal stamp on a house built on sand.”
While charging ADC “to be prepared to add value to Nigeria’s democracy by playing the role of a credible opposition that offers realistic policy alternatives, rather than indulging in bitter rhetoric that adds no value to governance or the lives of Nigerians”, the APC cautioned the coalition against premature campaigns, noting the 2027 elections are still far ahead.
“To jump the gun not only undermines fair competition but also exposes a party’s desperation and disregard for law and order,” it said.
The ruling party further accused the coalition of building excuses, issuing press statements, and thriving on empty noise, compared to the APC, which, according to the statement, builds roads, rails, power infrastructure, and implements economic reforms that create a future for Nigerians.
Stating that the ruling APC, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, remains fully committed to fair play, the law, and the democratic order, the statement advised the ADC to channel its energies into issue-based politics, constructive engagement, and adherence to the rules of the game, rather than indulging in political rascality and premature electioneering.
