APC stakeholders seek intensified mobilisation for e-registration exercise in Agege

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege and Orile Agege have urged party stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation to boost participation in the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise in the council areas.
They said that poor coordination and limited outreach had continued to affect turnout.
The leaders made the call at a stakeholders’ engagement organised by the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in the communities.
The engagement was aimed at galvanising party members and sensitising residents on the importance of the e-registration exercise.
Speakers at the meeting said the programme was designed to reinvigorate party structures, expand membership and reposition Agege among the leading local governments in APC registration figures.
Addressing participants, PCC chairman, Sabitu Kamaldeen, noted that despite Agege’s reputation as a politically active constituency, the number of registered members remained far below expectations.
The party leader attributed the situation to what he described as weak leadership engagement and the concentration of party activities around a few individuals, which said had alienated many grassroots members.
According to him, the exercise is not merely administrative, but central to strengthening the party ahead of future electoral contests.
He stressed that broader participation would ensure inclusiveness, deepen internal democracy and prevent the party from being perceived as a “one-man show.”
Mr Kamalrudeen said: “Our immediate target is to register between 30,000 and 50,000 members across the local government with mobilisation efforts already underway at ward level.
“Several members have begun registering, but sustained outreach by elected officials and party executives is critical to achieving these set goal.
“We hereby call on national and state party leaders, President Bola Tinubu, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the state APC chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, to encourage local representatives to engage more actively with party members.
“This engagement will rebuild confidence and motivate supporters to participate fully in party activities.”
Speaking separately, the spokesperson for PCC Agege and Orile Agege, Adetunji Akinyemi (Bamofin), said the essence of the mobilisation drive was to unite members and attract new entrants into the party.
Mr Akinyemi, also a legal practitioner, emphasised that the APC belonged to all its members and should not be dominated by any single individual or group.
He said that PCC leaders had directed coordinators to mobilise at least 3,000 new members across the 13 wards in the two local council areas as an initial benchmark.
He further said that the focus was on sensitisation and reconciliation, urging members to put past disagreements behind them and work collectively for the party’s success.
“Strengthening the party at the grassroots will not only enhance APC’s standing in Agege but also support the broader political interests of the party and the Lagos State government.
“This is not about fighting anyone but it is about bringing our people together and restoring Agege to its rightful place as one of the strongest APC bases in the state,” Mr Akinyemi said.
