President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday said defectors are attracted to the All Progressives Congress, APC, due to the impressive performance of his regime and the “good governance agenda” of the party.

Welcoming Zamfara State governor Bello Matawalle, who defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday, Mr Buhari, in a statement by his spokesperson Garba Shehu, said Mr Matawalle took a wise decision.

“I’m proud of your timely and wise decision to join the governing party and our doors are wide open to other politicians who believe in our vision to rebuild Nigeria,” Mr Buhari said.

“Your voluntary decision to join our party confirms the fact that our agenda for good governance is the only reason why Nigerians are getting attracted to the APC because the other alternative didn’t work.”

Mr Buhari added that the “APC is becoming more popular because of its impressive performance record and commitment to good governance.”

Before Mr Matawalle’s defection, Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade had also defected  to the APC.

Mr Ayade said he joined the party to join hands with the Mr Buhari to tackle the myriad of challenges facing the country.
