APGA confident of victory in Enugu LG election

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) says the party is confident of winning many chairmanship and councillor positions in the forthcoming local government election in Enugu.
Ekene Uzodimma, acting chairman, APGA, Enugu state, disclosed this during the party’s delegate meeting and primary election on Sunday in Enugu.
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) fixed Oct. 5 for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
Mr Uzodimma said that APGA, under the leadership of Edozie Njoku as the national chairman and Chekwas Okorie as the chairman, board of trustees, was repositioned to take over offices in Enugu and Nigeria in general.
The acting chairman reiterated that when the campaign began, the people of the state would see that APGA was ready to take over many elective positions.
“So today, we are witnessing APGA primaries election as well as free and fair election that will produce credible candidates that will run for Councillorship and local government Chairmanship offices in Enugu.
“We are preparing ourselves to present to Enugu people the most credible, strategic and trained candidates that will bring about the needed change in accordance with the yearning of the people.
“The party has chairmanship candidates across the 17 LGAs and councillorship for the 260 wards,” he said.
He guaranteed Enugu people that the forthcoming election would be different compared to previous ones.
According to him, the party has conviction that ENSIEC will be unbiased in the conduct of the election.
“We want them to allow us access to sensitive and non sensitive materials on the spot, call the result on the polling units and allow our agents to have access to results.
“I want them to be a sincere and independent election umpire that allows free, fair and credible elections,” he appealed.
Speaking on behalf of the other candidates, the chairmanship candidate for Nsukka Council Area, Harry Ugwuanyi, thanked the party for electing them to run for local government election under the APGA, pledging not to disappoint the party.
Also, the ENSIEC official, Anthony Ebunonu, who monitored the election, extolled the peaceful manner the party elected its candidates for the election.
Candidates elected for chairmanship position include Okechukwu Umegbo for Awgu, Kingsley Ude, Aninri; Ikechukwu Ngwu, Nkanu West and Paul Ezea for UzoUwani Local Government Area.
Others were Udochukwu Ofordile, Udenu; Aroh Obeta, Igbo Etiti; Onyedika Agbo, Enugu South and N. P Ike-Obi, Enugu North Council Areas.
