The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) elected 24 candidates on Tuesday in Abakaliki to fly the party’s flag at the 2023 House of Assembly elections in Ebonyi.

Three delegates from each ward in the state participated at the election.

Ricky Okorouka, APGA state chairman, told journalists that the exercise was credible, transparent and seamless.

He said the candidates were elected in consonance with the provisions of the electoral law, the guidelines released by INEC and the party’s constitution.

He said that the peaceful and rancour-free election was an indication of the party’s readiness to offer the people of Ebonyi a credible alternative in 2023.

“Our House of Assembly primary election was quite successful. We had one aspirant in each of the 22 constituencies except for Ezza Northeast and Ezza Northwest where we had about five aspirants who contested the tickets.

“The exercise was successful; it was hitch free and fair; INEC officials were there to observe the process; security agents were also present to ensure that everything we did was peaceful and successful.

“There was no crisis, no gunshots anywhere unlike in other political parties where there are infighting and crises,” he said.

Earlier, Benard Odoh, APGA’s governorship aspirant in the state, told journalists that the success of the election indicated the general acceptance of the party in the state.

“We had a very fruitful exercise and INEC was here all day with us and we also had security agencies including the police, the Department of State Service and the Civil Defence Corps,” Mr Odoh said.

Omaka Onya, Afikpo Northwest constituency who spoke on behalf of the candidates, attributed the successful conduct and their emergence to the will of God and the unity existing in the party.

Mr Onya called on the electorate to vote wisely at the 2023 election adding that APGA remained the party to beat in Ebonyi in 2023.
