Arab League urges stronger AI cooperation among states

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit has called on Arab nations to strengthen cooperation in the artificial intelligence sector and increase investment in research and development.
Speaking at the opening of the first annual Arab AI Forum in New Alamein, Egypt, Mr Aboul-Gheit urged member states to adopt the League’s newly endorsed ethical charter to ensure the responsible and culturally sensitive use of AI.
Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat echoed the call, stressing that AI collaboration among Arab countries is now a “pressing necessity”.
He proposed establishing a council of Arab ministers for AI and emerging technologies under the Arab League to coordinate efforts and policies.
Mr Talaat also announced that Egypt would host the first AI Everything Middle East and Africa summit in February 2026 to further regional cooperation.
The two-day forum, organised by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in partnership with the Arab League, aimed to boost Arab collaboration in AI and facilitate the exchange of expertise.
It brought together Arab officials, diplomats, academics, experts, and business leaders.
