Argentines protest budget cuts to public universities

Scores of Argentines have trooped the streets of capital, Buenos Aires to demonstrate on budget cuts to public universities made by President Javier Milei.
The angry demonstrators are demanding Mr Milei increase funding to higher education, which largely depends on government subsidies.
The protestors are being joined by professors and students with their union leaders.
Mr Milei has imposed severe across-the-board spending cuts since taking office last December as part of his austerity program.
Already, the cuts have led to mass layoffs of public employees and cuts in transportation and fuel subsidies.
The government action triggered mass public demonstrations.
However, Mr Milei has said the cuts helped the government post three months of fiscal surpluses at the start of the year.
