Deputy Governor Umar Tafida has hailed President Bola Tinubu, sponsors and the people of Kebbi for the successful hosting of the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.

Mr Tafida, the chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the 2026 fishing festival, gave the commendation on Monday during the event’s closing ceremony.

Mr Tafida said the presence of Mr Tinubu at the festival underscored the federal government’s commitment to promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage and tourism development.

According to him, sustained federal support has created an enabling environment for cultural innovation and economic growth to flourish.

The deputy governor also commended Governor Nasir Idris for his leadership and unwavering commitment to the successful organisation of the festival.

Mr Tafida described the governor as the chief promoter of the festival’s revival and repositioning on the global cultural tourism map.

Mr Tafida further lauded the Emir of Argungu, Muhammad Sama’ila-Mera, and the Argungu Emirate Council for their guidance and steadfast efforts in preserving the historic festival.

He acknowledged the contributions of sponsors and strategic partners, noting that their financial and technical support played a critical role in the success recorded.

Mr Tafida thanked the National Automotive Design and Development Council and other stakeholders in the Nigerian automotive industry for supporting the Argungu motor rally, which he said added excitement and national appeal to the festival.

He also commended the fishermen, cultural groups, security agencies, members of the media and volunteers for their dedication and discipline throughout the event.
