The Nigerian Army in Sokoto State has readjusted its security architecture to prevent further terrorist infiltration and secure vulnerable border communities between Sokoto and Kebbi states.

Maj.-Gen. Bemgha Koughna, general officer commanding (GOC), 8 Division, Nigerian Army, gave the assurance during an operational visit to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kebbe Local Government Area and surrounding communities.

The visit followed reports of a renewed attack on Ungushi community in Kebbe Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, acting deputy director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division, on Tuesday, Mr Koughna said the visit aimed to assess the security situation and strengthen measures to protect affected communities.

“The army reassures residents of their safety, while urging the public to strengthen cooperation with security forces to prevent terrorist attacks.

“The Nigerian Army has proactively readjusted its security architecture to prevent further terrorist infiltration and secure vulnerable border communities between Sokoto and Kebbi states,” he assured.

Mr Koughna also engaged community leaders and residents during the tour to address their concerns and assess the situation on the ground.

He reassured the people that troops remained fully deployed, highly alert and focused on protecting lives and property.

The GOC said the army would respond swiftly and decisively to emerging threats, stressing that terrorists would not be allowed to establish safe havens in the region.

He urged residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, assuring them that security forces were firmly on the ground.

Mr Koughna further appealed to residents to strengthen cooperation with troops by promptly providing credible and actionable information on suspicious movements and activities in their communities.

He said community support remained critical to detecting, disrupting and dismantling terrorist networks before they could launch attacks.
