Army hands over fake soldier to police in Lagos

A 36-year-old man, Khalid Animashaun, has been handed over to the police in Lagos after being caught with a fake Nigerian Army identity.
“The 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ikeja, has handed over one Animashaun Khalid, ‘m’, aged 36, to the Lagos State Police Command after he was arrested for impersonating an army major,” Lagos police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said in a statement on Monday.
Mr Hundeyin said the suspect was arrested at the Arena Market in Oshodi, adding that the investigation is ongoing to ascertain the crimes he may have committed using the forged ID card, as well as to arrest his accomplices.
“The suspect was apprehended at the Arena Market, Oshodi, with a forged Nigerian Army identity card bearing his name and the rank of Major by soldiers and was immediately handed over to the Lagos State Police Command in a seamless operation, underscoring strong inter-agency collaboration.
“The case has since been assigned to Special Squad I to conduct a thorough investigation aimed at tracing the source of the forgery, identifying accomplices, and determining whether the suspect used the fake identity to commit other offences,” Mr Hundeyin said.
Mr Hundeyin said the case will be taken to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the army and stressed the importance of synergy among security agencies.
