The Nigerian Army has assured residents of Taraba State of its commitment to peace and security following the killing of two soldiers during a peacekeeping operation in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.

A credible source at army headquarters confirmed that troops came under attack from unidentified armed assailants on August 20, resulting in the death of two soldiers.

He said while the army deeply regretted the loss of its gallant soldiers, it remained resolute in its mission to restore peace and protect all communities in Karim-Lamido and across Taraba State.

He added that a board of inquiry was inaugurated to probe the incident, while troops continue to maintain a strong presence in the area to forestall further violence.

The army also appealed for the cooperation of community leaders and residents in its peace efforts, stressing that lasting security could only be achieved through collaboration and mutual trust.

He stated, “During a routine peacekeeping operation in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba on August 20, troops of 6 Brigade came under attack from unidentified armed assailants. Regrettably, two soldiers lost their lives during the engagement.’’
