Arsenal’s Pablo Mari is recovering in a hospital after a stabbing attack that claimed another life.

The assailant attacked six people at a mall in Milan, Italy, including Mari, believed to be conscious and not seriously injured.

Mari and four other victims were taken to the hospital. One of the injured, a man in his 30s, later passed away.

The sixth victim didn’t require hospital care.

Mari was shopping with his family at the Assago shopping centre when he was punched in the face and then stabbed in the back.

Authorities have detained a 46-year-old man after ruling out terrorism.

According to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, Mari “seems to be OK”.

“I know Edu has been in touch with his relatives,” said Arteta after Thursday’s 2-0 defeat at PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League.

“He is in hospital. He seems to be OK. I will get a briefing now about what happened.”

Arsenal issued a club statement on Thursday night: “We are all shocked to hear thedreadful news about the stabbing in Italy, which has put a number of people in hospital, including our on-loan centre-back Pablo Mari.

“We have contacted Pablo’s agent, who has told us he’s in hospital and is not seriously hurt.

“Our thoughts are with Pablo and the other victims of this dreadful incident.”

Mari is on loan at Italian side Monza from Arsenal.
