Arsenal thump Tottenham, go eight-point clear at top
Impressive Arsenal beat London rival Tottenham on Sunday in the English Premier League, staying atop EPL log with eight points lead margin ahead second-place Manchester City.
The Gunners grabbed a 2-0 away win against Spurs to keep their grip on the top spot.
It took Arsenal 14 minutes into the game to take the lead as Hugo Lloris dropped Bukayo Saka’s strike into the net.
In quick succession, Lloris saved a good strike from Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, while Thomas Partey’s long-range volley crashed the woodwork.
The Gunners maintained control of the game as Odegaard placed a low shot behind Lloris, making it two for Arsenal before the first half break.
Spurs returned into the second half with much vigour but were contained by Arsenal’s highly disciplined defenders.
In the 50th minute, Harry Kane came close but was denied by Aron Ramsadale, leaving Arsenal in a comfortable lead.
Eddie Nketiah had the opportunity to make it three for the Gunners and seal their victory but blew the chance.
The Spur pushed a little harder, mounting pressure on Arsenal’s defence but could not break through to pull a consolation goal.
With Sunday’s win, the Gunners are now atop EPL log with eight points ahead second-place City.
The Gunners have garnered 47 points in 18 games, while City have 39 points in 18 games.
