Artisan in court over alleged theft of mobile phone
A 29-year-old artisan, Kenneth Suleiman, was arraigned in an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, FCT, for allegedly stealing an OPPO cellphone valued N90, 000.
The police charged Suleiman of no fixed address with theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko told the court that the complainant, Sandra Sunday, who resides in Kuje Road, Gwagwalada, Abuja, reported the matter at Gwagwalada Police Station on January 21.
Mr Tanko said that sometime in 2023 the defendant went to the complainant’s house and stole her OPPO valued N90,000.
He said that when the complainant saw him, he ran away with the phone and efforts to arrest him proved abortive.
The prosecutor said the defendant was later arrested on January 22 at Park Road Gwagwalada, FCT.
Mr Tanko said that the offence contravened the provision of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Abdullahi Abudulkarim, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N80, 000 each with one surety in like sum.
Mr Abudulkarim ordered that the surety must reside within the court jurisdiction and must provide a valid means of identification.
He adjourned the case until March 13 for hearing.
