Asa demands N300 million from Tempoe, Joeboy over copyright infringement

Nigerian soul singer Asa (Bukola Elemide) is demanding N300 million in compensation over alleged copyright infringement by Joseph Akinwale (Joeboy) and his music producer Alageu Michael Chidozie (Tempoe), following the release of Joeboy’s single ‘Contour’.
“It has been brought to our attention that your newly released song, Contour (the “song”), infringes on the copyright of our client, as recorded/captured in a musical composition (the “composition”) which she created in a recording session, which took place on 22 September 2020, with the producer of the song, Alageu Michael Chidozie (a.k.a Tempoe) in attendance.”
The letter requested that the said song be taken down from all DSPs and other platforms.
“We hereby demand that you immediately remove the song from all DSPs and any other platforms within twenty-four (24) hours of your receipt of this letter, with a written apology issued to our client, as well as halt any additional infringements of our composition, including any other infringements,” added the letter.
It also demanded N300,000,000 “as well as a 60 per cent publishing split on the song be assigned to our client.”
Meanwhile, Joeboy has called the bluff of Asa and her legal team.
“You said I have 24 hours. It’s been 48 hours, do something,” he posted on Instagram.
After sharing the screenshot of the letter from Asa’s management on the social media platform, he wrote, “LOL.”
He added, “Cos I dey always do love and light you think sey I will be soft meat.”
