Asaba 2025: Ekiti qualifies for finals in Ayo Olopon

She described her qualification for the finals of the game as a dream come true.

Ekiti player in Ayo Olopon, Precious Ayodele, has qualified for the finals of the game in the female single at the ongoing National Youth Games(NYG) in Asaba, Delta.

In a thrilling encounter, Precious took the state to the first medal zone as the rising junior player won six games in a row by beating Imo 2-0, defeated Osun 2-1 and overpowered Federal Capital Territory by 3-1.

Precious also capped it up with a 2-0 win over her Cross River counterpart which sent her to the quarter final.

In the quarter final, she defeated Bayelsa by 3-0 and came from behind to defeat Akwa Ibom by 2-1 to reach finals.

Reacting, the state coach of Ayo Olopon, Sunday Abimbola, commended Precious for making Ekiti proud by defeating all her opponents from the group stage to the semi final.

She described her qualification for the finals of the game as a dream come true, adding that none of his players qualified for the finals in Ayo Olopon in previous National Youth Games.

“I am delighted with the performance of Precious, she defeated six of her counterparts from six states.

“She has qualified for the finals of the game scheduled for Sunday and I believe she will win Gold for Ekiti,” he said.

Abimbola added that the finals of the game would be played in the indoor games hall at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

In Table Tennis, a young player, Kolade Bright, in the female singles, defeated her opponent from Delta by 3-1 to qualify for the quarter final.

She had earlier defeated her counterpart from Osun by 3-1 in the round of 32 of the game.

Team Ekiti will play double and mixed double in table tennis on Sunday.

The state will also be in action in tennis, cricket and basketball on Sunday and Monday.
