Assault: Wanted Portable quizzed by police, released on bail

Nigerian street hop artist, Habib Okikiola popularly known as Portable, has turned himself in after being declared wanted by the Ogun State police command.
The Zazu crooner reported himself to the Ogun police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta on Wednesday, June 29 over allegations of assault.
He came in the company of his father and manager.
The singer was immediately transferred to the public complaint bureau office for interrogation, by the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, and eventually released with a condition to make himself available whenever needed.
“Since the offence committed is a bailable one, and coupled with the strike action embarked upon by the civil servants in the state which also affected the courts, the suspect was released to a reliable surety who promised to produce him anytime he is needed,” police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said.
“Meanwhile, the assaulted victim has also been invited to come and state his own side of the story to enable the command to complete her investigation on time”, Mr Oyeyemi noted.
On June 20, the police ordered Portable to report at the nearest police station following a viral video that showed his involvement in the assault against DJ Chicken.
“The flagrant display of impunity by Portable in the viral video is condemnable and if not checked, it will send a wrong signal to the youths who are looking up to him as a role model,” Mr Oyeyemi had said in a statement.
“Jungle justice has no place in our laws and whoever embarked on it must be made to feel the weight of the law, no matter the status of such person.”
