Assembly urges Gov. Soludo to rebuild Anambra communities impacted by insecurity

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to urgently establish an emergency reconstruction and rehabilitation programme for communities devastated by insecurity in different parts of the state.
The resolution followed a motion presented during plenary by the member representing Ihiala Constituency 2, Golden Iloh, during plenary on Wednesday in Awka.
The lawmaker said the programme would focus on rebuilding destroyed infrastructure and restoring healthcare.
Mr Iloh also said that the programme would include educational services, reviving economic activities, supporting displaced persons to return home, and accelerating recovery in the affected communities.
Mr Iloh lamented the large-scale destruction of public facilities in communities across Ihiala, Ogbaru, Orumba South, Nnewi South, Awka North, Aguata, Ayamelum and Orumba North local government areas.
He acknowledged that the security initiatives introduced by Mr Soludo’s administration had significantly restored peace in many parts of the state.
He however noted that several schools, hospitals, maternity centres, roads and other public infrastructure were still in ruins and required urgent attention.
Contributing to the motion, the Majority Leader representing the Ekwusigo constituency, Ikenna Ofodeme, emphasised the need for immediate government intervention to restore hope and confidence among residents of the affected areas.
Also, the member representing Idemili South Constituency, Ebuka Igwe; the member representing Nnewi South Constituency, Nonso Atuchukwu; and the member representing Orumba South Constituency, Emma Nwafor supported the motion.
Presiding over the plenary, the speaker of the House, Somtochukwu Udeze, described the motion as timely and important.
