The Imo State House of Assembly on Thursday urged Governor Hope Uzodimma to direct the construction of some roads in Ikeduru Local Government Area (LGA).

The house made the call following a motion sponsored by JohnLeobard Iheoha (APC-Ikeduru).

Mr Iheoha noted that roads from Azaraegbelu Junction to Avuvu Ikeduru, Owubinubi Amakohia, Bridge, and Okpala Amakohia to Okwu autonomous communities, all in Ikeduru LGA, were in dire need of construction.

He added that lack of motorable roads in the communities had hindered economic growth, social development and access to basic services.

According to him, the construction of roads in these communities will improve the quality of life, enhance economic opportunities and facilitate social interactions among the people.

He, therefore, prayed the house to urge the governor to also direct the construction of a road from Nkwo Emeke Junction to Avuvu Ikeduru, to Owubinubi Amakohia.

Mr Iheoha further prayed for the building of a bridge to Okpala Amakohia and the construction of a road to Okwu autonomous communities.

The motion was seconded by Chidiebere Ogbunikpa (APC-Okigwe), who added his voice to the call for the governor to intervene.

Supporting the motion, the Deputy Minority Leader, Clinton Amadi (LP-Owerri Municipal), noted that the affected areas could not be developed due to poor access roads.

He called for the roads to be properly fixed and new ones constructed to encourage expansion and the decongestion of Owerri Municipal.

Similarly, Chidozie Nwosu (APC-Oguta) noted that while Ikeduru had a good topography for agriculture, achieving its potential would be impossible because of the bad roads.

He, therefore, called for urgent action to encourage the growth of profitable ventures in the area.

Contributing, Kelechi Ofurum (APC-Owerri North) urged the works commissioner to go around the state and identify roads that were in dire need of rehabilitation, especially roads linking the communities for commerce.

The motion was adopted following votes in support of the prayers by members of the house.

The Speaker, Chike Olemgbe, directed the clerk to convey the resolutions to the office of the governor.
