Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the 1981 Alumni Association of Victory High School Ikeja, Lagos, have mourned Patience Eno, wife of the Akwa-Ibom governor.

Mr Abubakar in a statement by His Media Adviser Paul Ibe in Abuja, described the late Eno, who died on Friday, as a remarkable woman who gave her best in the service of humanity and her family.

He sympathised with the family of Governor Umo Eno, the government and people of Akwa Ibom over the demise of the first lady.

Sharing in the grief of the Akwa-Ibom people, Mr Abubakar urged Mr Eno to stand firm in the belief that his beloved wife has only gone to rest in a place of eternal peace.

Praying for the gentle repose of Mrs Eno’s soul, Mr Abubakar said that he stood with the governor and his people at the difficult time.

The 1981 Alumni Association of Victory High School Ikeja, Lagos, also consoled Mr Eno on the death of his wife. .

In a condolence message by the association’s President, John Abiodun on Saturday in Abuja, the alumni described the late Eno as a cheerful woman, who impacted many lives positively.

Mr Abiodun said that the association was deeply saddened about the death of Mrs Eno which occurred on Friday.

He said that the association could not comprehend the depth of feelings of grief and sadness the incident might have caused the governor — an alumnus of the school.

Mr Abiodun advised the governor not to be sorrowful, but be comforted by the fact that what he lost “has become heaven’s gain. We should not be sorrowful as an unbeliever but take deep solace in the Lord who is able to bring peace and comfort to your heart at times like this. She was no doubt a woman of virtue, sound Christian character and courage.’’

Mr Abiodun recalled the rapport and the reception Mrs Eno gave their delegation in spite of her busy schedules during their visits to Uyo shortly before the election and during the inauguration.

“She had a cheerful heart and infectious smiles. She indeed has touched the lives of many people of Akwa Ibom and many Nigerians,” Mr Abiodun said.

He advised the governor to take comfort in the loving memories he shared with his late wife, and allow them to serve as a source of joy and strength for him and the children.
