President Bola Tinubu on Thursday derided the African Democratic Congress coalition formed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, as a “coalition of confusion.”

Mr Tinubu, in a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, “dismissed the opposition as a coalition of confusion.”

While urging progressive-minded Nigerians to join the APC and participate in its developmental agenda, Mr Tinubu said, “Our doors are still open, and we should wholeheartedly embrace those who join us.”

Mr Tinubu’s statement comes after the party’s 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, which saw Nentawe Yilwatda emerge the new All Progressives Congress chairman, succeeding former chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.

Paul Ibe, spokesperson for Mr Abubakar, has responded to Mr Tinubu’s statement, charging the president to focus on governance and stop attacking the opposition.

“Tinubu should fix his troubled government, broken Economy, not meddle in the affairs of the opposition,” Mr Ibe said.

He added, “Attacking the opposition has now become his favourite pastime — even while the country burns under his watch. This constant attack on the opposition is “‘a distraction by a man clearly overwhelmed by the mess in his own house.”
