Attendants arraigned over alleged theft of petrol worth N40.8 million

The magistrate adjourned the case until February 12, 2026, for hearing.

The police on Wednesday, charged two men before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly stealing petrol valued N40.8 million.

The defendants, Adetunji Abiodun, 48, and Olatunji Usman, 25 are petrol attendants.

They were charged on two-counts of conspiracy and stealing.

The defendants had each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Ibrahim Sikiru, told the court that the defendants conspired with others now at large, to commit the offence on November 20, at about 11.30a.m along the Ibadan-Lagos expressway in Ibadan.

Mr Ibrahim alleged that the defendants stole 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol, valued at N40.8 million, property of Gastab Global Haulage Nigeria Limited.

According to prosecution, the defendants were eventually arrested by the police following investigations.

The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.

The Magistrate, M. Mudashiru, granted the defendants bail in the sum of five million each, with two sureties each in like sum.

The court held that one of the sureties must have five million naira in his or her bank account, while the second sureties must be a blood relative to the defendants.

He adjourned the case until February 12, 2026, for hearing.
