Australian authorities have banned Iranians with valid tourist visas from visiting for the next six months over fears that many of them may refuse to leave the country amid lingering U.S.-Israel and Iran war.

Australian Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke announced this move in a statement on Wednesday.

Mr Burke said that many of the visas issued to Iranians would not have been issued amid the lingering hostilities between the U.S., Israel, and Iran.

“There are many visitor visas, which were issued before the conflict in Iran, which may not have been issued if they were applied for now,” Mr Burke said.

He added, “Decisions about permanent stays in Australia should be deliberate decisions of the government, not a random consequence of who had booked a holiday.”

The minister said the Australian authorities were monitoring development on the crisis,” and will adjust settings as required to ensure Australia’s migration system remains orderly, fair and sustainable.”

The Australian Home Affairs Minister said “Sympathetic consideration” may be given to the parents of Australian citizens, adding that the Australian government was “acting in the national interest amid rapidly changing global conditions.”

The development will affect 6,800 Iranians who have already been issued visit visas to Australia.
