Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has returned to his official residence, The Lodge, on Tuesday evening after being evacuated for about three hours due to a reported security threat.

The Australian Federal Police had confirmed it responded to an alleged security incident at 6 p.m. and conducted a comprehensive search of the premises.

Authorities later declared there was no ongoing threat to public safety.

In recent months, Australia has seen a rise in threats targeting senior political figures.

AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett established National Security Investigations teams last October to counter hate-driven and politically motivated threats.

According to officials, 21 individuals nationwide have been charged since the units were formed. (Xinhua/NAN)
