He said a search of the hideout led to the recovery of a locally made pistol.
Mr Dadiyata was abducted from his residence in Bamawa, Kaduna State, in August 2019.
The police said evidence linking the suspect to the crime had been recovered.
“They change their principle to stay in a party, we change because we want an opportunity to build a new Nigeria,” he said.
The 81-year-old has been in power for four decades.
The decision was announced on Saturday during the party’s national convention.
Ms Farouq served as minister between 2019 and 2023.
Mr Daso described the deceased officer as hardworking and dedicated to service.
The organisation said, “The Nigerian authorities have failed the people of Plateau State again and again.”
The police spokesperson said that the victims were severely beaten by the mob who chased them on motorcycles.
