Awujale Stool: SSS summons Fusengbuwa ruling house nominees, stops kingmakers’ meet-and-greet

The State Security Service has summoned nominees contesting the stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
In the invitation letter dated January 21, 2026, the SSS also unilaterally cancelled an earlier planned meet-and-greet slated to be held at the Awujale’s palace.
The letter was addressed to the heads of the Fusengbuwa ruling house (Lateef Owoyemi, Dokun Ajidagba, and Fassy Yusuf).
“Dear Sirs, Re: Invitation of Awujale Nominees to the DSS Office and Cancellation of the Meet-and-Greet at the Aafin Awujale.
“We write to formally inform you that the meet-and-greet earlier scheduled for this morning at the Aafin Awujale has been cancelled. Accordingly, the Awujale nominees are hereby directed to report to the Department of State Services (DSS) office located at State Security Service (SSS) Along NTA Road, Beside the State Psychiatric Hospital, Off Igbeba Road, Ijebu-Ode,” said the letter.
The Awujale’s stool has been a contentious issue since the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona in 2025.
The Fusengbuwa ruling house, on Monday, submitted the names of princes and one princess qualified to ascend the throne for consideration to the kingmakers.
The chairman and head of the ruling house, Mr Owoyemi, led other leaders to present the names to the kingmakers through the Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland, Olorogun Kuku, at an event held at the palace of the Awujale in Ijebu-Ode.
According to tradition, the kingmakers are expected to elect the preferred candidate and forward the name to the government through the Ijebu Ode Local Government and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ogun State, for further action.
No fewer than 90 princes and a princess from the ruling house emerged as contestants for the vacant stool of the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebu land.
The contestants emerged at a nomination meeting held by the Fusengbuwq ruling house at Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu Ode.
