The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) has announced vacancies for key national coaching positions as part of efforts to strengthen the sport and improve Nigeria’s international competitiveness.

BFN President Francis Orbih disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, inviting qualified and experienced coaches to apply for various national team appointments.

Mr Orbih said the federation was seeking dynamic, result-oriented professionals capable of driving player development and advancing badminton at all levels across the country.

According to him, the recruitment exercise forms part of BFN’s broader strategy to reposition the sport for sustained growth and greater success on the global stage.

Available positions include head coach, assistant coach I and assistant coach II for the senior national team.

Vacancies are also open for similar coaching roles within the junior national team and the Para Badminton team.

“The successful candidates will play critical roles in talent identification, player development, competition preparation and overall team management,” Mr Orbih stated.

He explained that the coaches would be responsible for designing and implementing training programmes tailored to the needs of national athletes.

They will also oversee the improvement of players’ technical and tactical abilities through structured coaching and performance-enhancement initiatives.

In addition, successful applicants will conduct performance assessments and prepare athletes for national, continental and international competitions.

Mr Orbih stressed that the responsibilities extended beyond technical coaching, describing national coaches as mentors, disciplinarians, planners and role models.

According to him, coaches are expected to contribute to building resilience, confidence, discipline and professionalism among athletes under their supervision.

Mr Orbih further highlighted responsibilities relating to athlete welfare, safety standards, ethics and administrative duties within the national teams.

He said successful candidates would be required to maintain a conducive training environment that promotes excellence and encourages continuous improvement.

“They are also expected to promote sportsmanship, maintain accurate performance records and support the development of emerging coaches,” he added.

On eligibility requirements, Mr Orbih said applicants must possess coaching certifications recognised by the Badminton World Federation and the Confederation of African Badminton.

Candidates must also have experience representing either Nigeria or a state at recognised national badminton competitions.

He noted that previous coaching experience at national or elite levels would constitute an added advantage during the selection process.

Other requirements include computer literacy, strong communication skills, mentoring ability, analytical competence and effective planning capabilities.

Applicants are also expected to demonstrate flexibility, professionalism and strict adherence to ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.

Mr Orbih stated that prospective candidates must not be older than 55 years at the time of application.

Interested and qualified applicants are required to submit their curriculum vitae and formal application letters via email to info@badmintonnigeria.org.

The federation has fixed June 30, 2026, as the deadline for the submission of applications.

The recruitment exercise underscores its commitment to building a stronger coaching structure capable of nurturing talent and accelerating the development of badminton in Nigeria.

“The initiative reflects our determination to create a sustainable pathway for athlete development and position Nigeria for greater achievements internationally,” the BFN president stated.
