Bandits kill 10, raze houses in raid of Sokoto communities

Communities in Illela have been attacked in recent years, with bandits killing and kidnapping villagers for ransom.

Several residents have fled Amarawa, Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto state, after armed bandits attacked the village, killing no fewer than ten persons and others injured.

Peoples Gazette understands that the incident occured when bandits stormed the village on Sunday evening, opened gunfire and set several homes ablaze.

A source told the Gazette that searches were conducted Monday afternoon, as ten bodies were recovered across the village.

Women and children were said to have fled to bush for safety and families have launched search for their loved ones.

“Women and children have taken to the bush since the attack and many families are looking for their loved ones who, at the wake of the attack ran for their lives.”

Residents were also said to have deserted the  in neighbouring villages in the local government over fears of attacks.

Communities in Illela have in recent years been attacked with bandits killing and kidnapping villagers for ransom.

The state police spokesman, Sanusi Abubakar, however, failed to respond to calls, when contacted on the incident.

Some villages mostly affected by the attacks are Amarawa, Tudun Gudale, Damba, Kalmalo, Araba, Gidan Katta, and Tozai.
