Police say they have arrested four suspected bandits and their marabout, rescuing 40 cows and 15 sheep in Niger.

Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun disclosed this in a statement issued in Minna on Monday.

The police command in Niger stated that its operatives arrested one suspect, Umar Samaila of Gussasu village, via Maikunkele, Bosso local government area, who confessed to being the spiritual leader of bandits hibernating in Niger, Abuja, and Nasarawa.

The statement added that the suspect would be taken to the FCT command of the police in Abuja for further investigation.

Similarly, the police arrested other suspected kidnappers and cattle rustlers on November 16 at Maijaki forest via Lapai in Niger and Rafindaji forest at the boundary between Niger and the FCT.

The command further explained that at Lapai, four suspects were arrested, 40 cows and 15 sheep rustled were recovered from them.

The police spokesman said the suspects would be arraigned soon.
