The police in Kwara have arrested three suspected armed robbers who invaded the house of Mohammed Usman and dispossessed him of N800,000 at Oorsha Fulani Camp, Ilorin.

This is contained in a statement issued by the command Spokesman, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, on Friday in Ilorin.

Mr Okasanmi said Usman and his wife were viciously attacked by the suspects; Mohammed Bello, Mohamed Bello and Abubakar Mohammed, with several matchet cuts inflicted on their heads and bodies.

The police spokesman explained that the armed robbers stormed Mr Uman’s residence after they were tipped off by his neighbour Abubakar Mohammed that he had sold his cows worth N800,000 earlier in the day.

“This information prompted the armed robbers to carry out the deadly attack on the victims, following which they were dispossessed of the proceeds of the sold cows and the suspects disappeared into the bush,” Mr Okasanmi said.

He said the police commissioner Tuesday Assayomo then ordered a discreet investigation following the attack.

“The investigation yielded positive results, as the Command’s Tactical teams in conjunction with vigilante and local hunters started a relentless combing of the bushes, in the cause of which Mohammed Bello, Mohamed Bello and Abubakar Mohammed were arrested.”

The spokesman said the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation and took the  investigators to their armory where one AK-47 rifle, one cut-to-size locally made pistol and one mask were recovered.

“Efforts are still in progress towards  arresting the leader of the gang who is still at large,” the statement said.

Mr Okasanmi added that the suspects would be charged to court at the  conclusion of the investigation.
