Bank staff, 1 other abducted in Ibadan
Gunmen on Monday kidnapped two people including a staff of Polaris Bank, at a quarry site located in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The gunmen stormed the site located along Ijebu-Ode/ Ibadan Road and kidnapped Popoola Isaac, a staff of Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) and Ismail Adeoye, a staff of Polaris Bank, Daily Post reported on Tuesday.
A source told the outlet that the incident was reported at the Idi Ayunre police station in the state.
When contacted for confirmation on the incident, the state’s police spokesperson Olugbenga Fadeyi said “Efforts [are being] intensified by Police Tactical teams to arrest the abductors and release abductees.”
The incident comes days after unknown gunmen abducted female passengers along Ijebu Ode/ Ibadan road.
Peoples Gazette had reported how female occupants of a bus travelling from Cross River were abducted around the same area last Friday, leaving male passengers behind.
“My fiancée, Precious Patrick Ibor was in transit from Calabar to Ibadan with a CROSS-COUNTRY transport company. I last spoke to her at exactly 7:37 p.m. when she told me she was at ijebu ode heading to Ibadan,” a Twitter user identified as Oluwayemlex had claimed.
Oluwayemlex claimed that after several unanswered calls, he visited Cross-country terminal at Ibadan where he was told that some passengers were kidnapped.
The South-West, like other geopolitical zones, have over the years battled with incessant kidnappings, which seem not ending soon despite some security measures put in place by the government.
A 2013 National Crime Victimisation and Safety Survey conducted by CLEEN Foundation with support from the United States-based Macarthur Foundation indicated that the region had the highest number of kidnap cases, with culprits demanding ransom, as seen on Premium Times.
According to the survey, the Iwo-Osogbo Road, Akure-Ilesa Road via Ondo State, Ijebu-Jesa/Esa Oke/Erio/Aramoko Road from Ekiti State and a number of other deserted roads within Osun State including Osogbo-Ibokun-Ada Roads were identified as kidnapping routes in the South-West zone.
