‘Barbie’ becomes Warner Bros.’ highest-grossing movie in North America

Greta Gerwig’s fantasy comedy “Barbie” has achieved another remarkable milestone, solidifying its position as Warner Bros.’ highest-grossing movie in North America to date.
This impressive feat was accomplished within mere four weeks of its theatrical debut.
As of Wednesday, “Barbie” has amassed domestic earnings of $537.4 million, surpassing Christopher Nolan’s 2008 hit “The Dark Knight,” which earned $533.7 million domestically.
Forbes reports that among Warner Bros.’ top 5 highest-earning domestic movies, “The Dark Knight Rises” ($448.1 million), “Wonder Woman” ($412.6 million), and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” ($381.2 million) hold notable positions.
Moreover, on Tuesday, the movie crossed the $1 billion threshold at the global box office, securing its place as Warner Bros.’ second-largest release in history, trailing closely behind the conclusion of the Harry Potter series, which garnered a worldwide gross of $1.34 billion.
According to Box Office statistics, ‘Barbie’ has achieved an international gross of $1.19 billion since its official premiere in July.
The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Greta Gerwig, the 40-year-old director, has risen to become the highest-grossing female director in cinematic history.
This achievement surpasses the earnings of “Frozen II,” which raked in $477.1 million and was co-directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, as well as “Captain Marvel,” which was jointly directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
