Barcelona made a perfect return to the revamped Spotify Camp Nou, thrashing Athletic Bilbao 4–0 in their first home match at the stadium since May 2023, when they recorded a 3–0 victory over Mallorca.

Saturday’s La Liga clash saw Barcelona host Athletic Bilbao at the Spotify Camp Nou following the November international break, with the home fans treated to an emphatic performance.

The home ground hosted 45,000 fans for the match, with the stadium still under construction. Once completed next year, it is expected to have a capacity of 105,000 seats and become the largest sports stadium in Europe.

Barça took the lead inside the opening minutes through a powerful solo effort from Robert Lewandowski into the bottom corner beyond Unai Simón.

Hansi Flick’s men doubled their advantage before the break, as Ferran Torres finished off a brilliant delivery from Lamine Yamal after a sustained spell of pressure and chances for the Spanish winger.

Minutes after the restart, Barcelona extended their lead to 3–0 through Fermín López. Bilbao’s situation worsened when Oihan Sancet was sent off, having already been booked earlier for a poor challenge.

To complete a dream return to their home ground, Barcelona made it 4–0, with Ferran Torres grabbing his second goal of the night.

Lamine Yamal provided the assist, picking up his second of the game as the teenager continued his impressive run of form.

The match also marked Raphinha’s return after injury, while Pedri is making good progress in his recovery. Yamal, who featured throughout, continued to show sharpness following his recent fitness concerns.

The result sends Flick’s side to the top of the La Liga table, while Athletic drops to fifth. Barcelona now turn its attention to its Tuesday Champions League fixture with Chelsea before returning home to host Alavés next weekend.
