Barcelona wallop Real Madrid to win Spanish Super Cup

Barcelona are the winners of the 2023 Spanish Super Cup after beating arch-rivals Real Madrid 3-1 in an El Classico final at the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Sunday night.
Spanish protege Gavi opened the scoring for Barcelona in the 33rd minute of the game thanks to an assist by Robert Lewandowski before the youngster reciprocated the deed when Lewandowski doubled the lead just moments away from the halftime whistle.
Barcelona resumed as the better side in the second half and Ousmane Dembele almost found the back of the net in the opening 10 minutes of the restart but his effort from close range was saved by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
In the final quarter of the match, another Spanish youngster, Pedri, easily tapped the ball into an open net to extend the Blaugrana’s advantage before Karim Benzema grabbed a consolation goal for the Los Blancos in the added time.
At fulltime, Barcelona walked away with a comfortable victory to clinch the Super Cup, their first trophy since the Copa del Rey triumph in the 2020/21 season. It is also Xavi’s first silverware as Barca’s manager.
