The Bauchi government has commended a group, Search for Common Ground, over its peacebuilding programme.

The organisation, in collaboration with development partners, conducted awareness programmes to transform the mindset of youths and religious leaders, fostering lasting peace.

Mohammed Binni, commissioner for religious affairs, said this during the close-out of the project on Wednesday in Bauchi.

He said the initiative has ignited a renewed sense of responsibility among stakeholders, fostering positive relationships across religious divides.

Represented by Sunday Simon, director of home affairs in the ministry, Mr Binni said the project was a tool for promoting peace and harmonious coexistence in the state.

Gift Omoniwo, programme officer of the group, commended Plateau, Bauchi, and Gombe state governments for providing an enabling environment for the organisation to operate effectively.

She said the project focused on promoting peace and religious tolerance, especially in vulnerable communities, and equipped young people with skills to drive peacebuilding and created platforms for interfaith dialogue.

“We fostered transformation and trust among diverse religious groups and supported the emergence of community-based peace influencers. There is hope for our youths to continue sustaining peace in their communities,” she said.

Munira Askira, project manager of the Nigerian Youth Care Project, stated that the project had a positive impact on grassroots peace efforts.

Ahmed Abdullahi (PDP-Dass constituency) lauded the organisation for its peace, education, and youth training programmes.

He urged youths to embrace peaceful coexistence, stressing that they must play a vital role in shaping a society free from conflict.
